Philosophy and Core values

Corpus Christi is the Body of Christ

“And he gave some as apostles,
others as prophets,
others as evangelists,
others as pastors and teachers,
to equip the holy ones for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until we all attain to the unity of faith and knowledge of the Son of God, to mature manhood, to the extent of the full stature of Christ,

so that we may no longer be infants,
tossed by waves and swept along by every wind of teaching arising from human trickery, from their cunning in the interests of deceitful scheming.

Rather, living the truth in love,
we should grow in every way into him who is the head, Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, with the proper functioning of each part, brings about the body’s growth and builds itself up in love.”

(Ephesians 4:11-16)

CORE VALUES:  Faith, Knowledge, Service, Leadership, Community

FAITH:  We will provide superior spiritual learning.  We will be solid in our Catholic faith, relying on the Holy Bible and the teaching body of the Catholic Church, for all we do.  We will invite children to a personal relationship with Jesus and his great love for them through deepening their prayer life both inside and outside the church.  We will instruct children on living a moral life and making proper ethical decisions in the interest of the common good.  We will initiate students to enter into the Sacraments of Jesus Christ and His Church, and invite them to the vocations of marriage and priesthood, as well as considering the consecrated religious life for the future of their families, the church, and the world.

KNOWLEDGE:  We will provide superior academic learning.  We will be a wellspring of knowledge bringing out of our storehouse both the new and the old (cf. Matthew 13:52).  In the classroom, we will weave the best of the classical tradition with the best of contemporary methods to draw children to think critically in all areas of the curriculum.  We will enhance our arts, music, and language offerings capitalizing on the wealth of resources in our surrounding community. We will integrate advancements in math, science, and technology into the hands of our students, so that they can meet the challenges of the future with confidence. We will maintain class sizes most conducive to individual needs, differentiated learning, and the greatest socialization of children to growth and maturity.

SERVICE:  We will serve, not be served (cf. Matthew 20:28).  We will prove our spiritual and academic learning by our service.  We will be true leaders in our neighborhood by practicing the corporal works of mercy both inside and outside our school (cf. Matthew 25:31-46).  We will visit the residents of Penrose-St. Francis Hospital and Springs Village Nursing Center offering prayer and support.  We will collaborate with the Marian House Soup Kitchen and Catholic Charities to assist the hungry and the homeless.

By all we do in service, “they will know that we are Christians by our love.”

LEADERSHIP:  We will be Catholic leaders.  Our Catholic identity and teaching is highly recognized and is the prime reason we have been chosen by families for 100 years.  We have a great, long-standing reputation as a community of faith, knowledge, and service.  Even though we are located in the Historic OLD North End Neighborhood of Colorado Springs, we are, in fact, the historic YOUNG North End! To “walk daily with Jesus in their lives” is how one parent expressed her children’s experience with us.  We are doing it, and will continue to do it well!  Jesus will lead, and we will follow.  We will be a young community of faith, knowledge, and service throughout the next 100 years!

COMMUNITY:  We will be a community that reaches out to the peripheries inviting all to come to know and love Jesus Christ as we do.   We will welcome all boys and girls desiring a Catholic School education.  We will welcome families from diverse ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds reflecting the true meaning of “catholic.”  We will practice good stewardship of all of our resources expecting everyone to give of their time, talent, and treasure in order to hold a proud stake in our future.  We will retain faculty and administration who support our mission completely.  We will retain students to a complete 8th grade education, so that they are prepared fully for the challenges of high school.  We will be a community of missionary disciples carrying the Good News to our alumni and to other Catholic leaders in the broader community, so that they will support our mission and extend our scope.
