Pentecost Comes to Corpus Christi

Posted on: April 17th, 2013

pentecostWe celebrate Penetecost on the “50th” day at the end of the seven weeks following Easter. This year Pentecost Sunday is on  May 19.

We recognize that Penetocost was the first Confirmation when the Holy Spirit was manifested and sealed  the apostles with the gift of the Holy Spirit to be messengers of the paschal mystery of Christ.

Annually, the Church celebrates the memory of Pentecost event as the beginning of  the “new”, when Christ lives and acts in and with His Church.

During the week of Pentecost, the clergy wear red vestments. Red symbolizes fire and blood and the commitment of martyrs to their faith.

This color  is also used for celebrations of the Passion, Good Friday, Palm Sunday and for the feasts of the Apostles and martyrs, evangelics, and the Sacrament of Confirmation.
